5 inches of new snow with no wind loading was just enough to cause subtle whoomping and cracking in the snowpack near the Bacon Rind drainage. Cracks were shooting 10-15 ft. These are sure signs of unstable snow. More snow may come Friday and make the snowpack more unstable. The snowpack throughout the Madison Range is equally weak.
